If you're going to websites and your computer is telling you that your browser is out of date,  chances are you're probably running an older Mac (old iMac desktop or white MacBook). You have a couple of options to solve this problem:

  1. If your computer has enough RAM, you may be able to update the operating system. This will update Safari to something usable. To see if your computer is capable of this update, please click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen then click on "About this Mac". You should see something that says "Memory". If your computer has 2GB or more, then you can upgrade. (Please send a support request to have your computer's Operating System upgraded.) If it only has 1GB of memory, your computer is incapable of upgrading at this time. PLEASE REFER TO OPTION 2 BELOW.
  2. If your computer is running with 1GB or less of RAM, more RAM will need to be installed in order to update the browser but more so, upgrade the computer. The overall issue is that the operating system that is currently on your computer is no longer supported by those websites. Subsequent versions of the operating system ARE available for your computer ONLY IF your computer has 2GB or more of RAM. Since this is a request that involves SLKF School's money, a request will have to be submitted to Pam Schott to purchase more RAM for your computer. Once the RAM order has been approved and ordered, once installed, your computer's operating system will then need to be upgraded. After everything is completed, you should not receive any more messages saying, "Your computer's browser is out of date."

The options above will ONLY update Safari. Once the computer has been fully upgraded to a higher operating system, Google Chrome should automatically update to the latest version. If it does not, then it will need to be manually updated. To do this, open Google Chrome then click on "Chrome" in the menu bar (next to the Apple icon). Click on "About Google Chrome". When the screen opens up, you should have an option to update Chrome. Click on the button or link to update Chrome and restart the browser if necessary. (It is recommended to follow the prompts when manually updating Chrome as different versions of Chrome are updated in different ways.

After all the above options and steps have been explored and completed, your computer's update/upgrade should be up to date.
